The beginning of the art of embroidery in Kalocsa dates back to the second half of the 19th century, after the opening of the Kalocsa embroidery factory.
Kalocsa’s living traditions of mural painting, embroidery, costume and dance have been included in the National Heritage List since 2010.
To promote embroidery, locals organise a number of events to pass on the culture by wearing embroidered clothes in line with traditional dances.
Tourists visiting Hungary are keen to buy handicrafts and other national treasures to take a piece of the country’s atmosphere with them.
